Makers Mill is a Community Makerspace & Vocation Hub in New Hampshire’s Mountains and Lakes Region.
Built on more than a decade of community‑building by the nonprofit G.A.L.A., Makers Mill provides equipment, tools, and hands‑on training across workshops such as woodworking, metalworking, automotive, jewelry, textiles, and ceramics—all designed to foster creativity, skill‑building, and sustainable local development. The makerspace serves local residents, learners, job seekers, and businesses by offering workforce‑development programming in collaboration with regional partners. Through accessible training, shared tools, and community education, Makers Mill supports both personal skill growth and the regional economy.
WHAT ESC DID
Feasibility Study & Landscape Research
ESC analyzed comparable makerspaces across the Northeast and explored potential partnerships with community colleges, workforce‑training entities, and local businesses to assess market demand and confirm viability.
Strategic Business Planning
Working closely with GALA leadership, ESC documented the market need, primary goals, program and service priorities, project dependencies, and detailed multi‑year financial projections necessary for sustainable operations.
Stakeholder Engagement
ESC and GALA jointly interviewed numerous stakeholders, anticipated partners, and community members to ensure that the plan reflected the aspirations, needs, and unique strengths of the regional ecosystem.
Roadmap for Implementation
The resulting strategic business plan provided a clear, actionable roadmap for the capital campaign, building renovation, operational planning, and long‑term program development, serving as the organization’s compass throughout this major initiative.
